Barbecue is a way of life in Austin, there’s just no way around it. Franklin BBQ is on the "Bucket list" of things to do in Austin - people pull up at dawn or shortly thereafter and spend their breakfast hours waiting for lunch. Rain or shine, six days a week, hundreds of men, women and children wait three to five hours or longer to eat some of the most celebrated smoked beef brisket in America. But don't fret, you can BYOB while you wait. The meat is rubbed with spices and cooked over indirect heat from pecan or oak wood. Many barbecue restaurants open around 11:00am and serve until "they are out of meat". Remember- It's not good BBQ unless the sauce is dripping down your elbows.

Austin has 1900+/- bands and performing artists living in and around our city. Austin is also home to some of the largest music events and festivals in the world, including South by Southwest (SXSW), Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL), The Urban Music Festival, Fun Fun Fun Fest, the Pecan Street Festival and more. There are multiple greenbelts in Austin, but the Barton Creek Greenbelt is so beloved that locals commonly refer to it as “the Greenbelt,” as if it were the only one. Located in south-central Austin, the Barton Creek Greenbelt contains 12.68 miles of gorgeous trails, with the main trail spanning about 7 miles. This particular greenbelt is considered one of the top hiking trails in Texas. Austin has one of the largest networks of rivers and lakes in the state - making for some awesome swimming holes. Take advantage of them during the hot days of summer & bring your dog.
Austin Bat Watching at Sunset
Watch the Bats at sunset from the Congress Ave Bridge This is another "Bucket List" of things to do in Austin. From March to October, 1.5 million bats emerge nightly from bat-sized crevices in the underside of the Congress Avenue Bridge. Be sure to get there around 20 minutes before sundown. Every summer night, hundreds of people gather to see the world's largest urban bat colony emerge from under the Congress Avenue Bridge in downtown Austin, Texas. These 1.5 million bats are fun to watch.

Google has been testing it's self driving cars in Austin. Google is also offering high speed internet service in Austin, called Google Fiber. At 1-gigabit speeds, a user can download 25 songs in 1 second, a TV show in 3 seconds and a high-definition movie in less than 36 seconds, according to industry figures.
